Ingredients
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (105° F)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup white sugar
Instructions
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1/4 cup of white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the yeast mixture. Gradually blend in the flour, salt and spices. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead in the raisins and nuts. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Grease a 10-inch Bundt pan lightly with butter.
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a ring about 10-inches in diameter. Place the two rings side by side in the prepared pan, overlapping the ends. Cover the pan with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375° F (190° C). Brush the top of the tea ring with melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup of white sugar. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
